Destination Runway is a fashion show that has been the largest event on the Fall calendar at Hofstra for the past two years. Started in 2007, Destination Runway has brought clubs on campus together like no other event. In addition to promoting club unity, Destination Runway has another focus: philanthropy. All proceeds from the show benefit a non-profit organization that relates to the theme of that year’s show. The 2009 show had two themes meshed together, coming together as the “Urban Jungle.” There were aspects of the city and the jungle throughout the show, represented through clothing, performances and decorations. All proceeds went towards the World Wildlife Fund.
Font Arts & Literature Magazine asks undergraduate students to send poetry, prose, artwork and photography. Font rates all submissions anonymously, and publishes the highest rated works in an issue each semester. Font also hosts poetry slams and art events. Font hosted a magazine launch party on Monday, December 7, 2009.

The Hofstra Music Fest established in May 2007, and has become an annual out-door concert celebration. The festival is a day of free music, food and entertainment for the Hofstra community to celebrate the end of the semester. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, Hofstra Concerts and Entertainment Unlimited, the music festival has brought diverse music talent to Hofstra University. PRestige Agency serviced the Hofstra Music Fest by providing press and media releases, editing material they were sending out for corporate sponsorship, and writing copy for alumni.
The CCE founded in February 2007 to make sure that students understand the need for citizen involvement. The CCE stresses the principles of freedom of speech, freedom of expression, respect for others, appreciation for diverse persons and viewpoints, the ethics of public issues, personal and group empowerment, social and economic equality, and preservation of the environment. With large events such as Day of Dialogue and Earth Day, the CCE was a great opportunity for PRestige Agency. The team worked to promote the annual Earth Day event, which featured eco-friendly food and an alternative fuel car show.
Created by Jason Schoenberger in 1998, Sigma’capella is the only co-ed a capella group at Hofstra University. Sigma’capella sings pop/contemporary music with a capella soul. Sigma’capella has sung at various on-campus events such as the annual Day of Peace, Hofstra’s Winter Wonderland “Sinterklaus”, and School 4 School’s events. Sigma’capella approached the Agency in the fall of 2008 as a talented group, but with no knowledge of how to best reach possible audiences. PRestige created a thorough media and publicity program for the organization, detailing how to interact with media on campus and in the community.
Sue Lucarelli, a former elementary school teacher at The Churchill School in Lower Manhattan, started the organization after the events of September 11, 2001. Since then, Hugs Across America has sent over 300,000 bears to children across the United States and has offered a sense of security to children affected by domestic violence, child abuse, natural disasters, and pediatric emergencies. Hugs Across America has grown into a national non-profit organization with over 80 chapters in various states. In the fall of 2008, PRestige Agency prepared a press kit for the non-profit organization.
For the Spring 2008 semester, the on-campus client for PRSSA was Hofstra University’s chapter of NAACP. With HINT, the NAACP put together a benefit fashion show with up and coming designers to raise money for Invisible Children, Inc., a non-profit organization that raises money and awareness for the children in Northern Uganda. Fonzworth Bentley, hip hop artist, entertainer, and fashion designer but most famously known for being personal assistant to Sean “Diddy” Combs hosted the show. We sent out media alerts to various outlets in the area and covered the event in our own PRestige blog.
For the dental society, we worked to promote their annual event “Give Kids A Smile.” During this event, Long Island dentists provided free dental exams and education to children in Nassau County ages 4 to 7. Our PRSSA committee helped by researching local media contacts and writing press materials to get media coverage for “Give Kids A Smile”.
Before we came along, the Pet Safe Coalition of Nassau County did not have a public relations coordinator and needed help in spreading awareness. We made a media “kit” tailored to each audience: one for press, volunteers, donors etc. We drafted a letter soliciting donations and thanking donors for their contributions, and we created a press release schedule and drafted some of the press releases.
